Tea break… (but nothing broken!)

Posted in Food, Restaurant, photography by mikb on March 27, 2009

Afternoon tea may have been started by the french but the English are the one who make it popular. Most people refer afternoon tea as high tea because they think it sounds regal and lofty, when in all actuality, high tea, or meat tea is dinner. High tea, in Britain, tends to be on the heavier side. American hotels and tea rooms, on the other hand, continue to misunderstand and offer tidbits of fancy pastries and cakes on delicate china when they offer a high tea.

In England, the traditional time for tea was four or five o’clock and no one stayed after seven. Most tea rooms today serve tea from three to five. The menu has also changed from tea, bread, butter and cakes, to include Savories (tiny sandwiches or appetizers), Scones (served with jam or clotted cream) and Pastries (cakes, cookies, shortbread and sweets)

Recently had dinner at M.O.D. Thai Food & Cafe in Jerudong. M.O.D serves both thai and western dishes and its 3 shop combined spaces is more than enough to accommodate a large crowd.

We were seated immediately and within minutes our drink order had been taken care of. The mood is relaxed and quite family-friendly. Service was quick and efficient, great food and a cozy environment makes it a pleasant first experience.
